Foundation in Stone Cutting

A 6- week course at St Canice’s Cathedral and Round Tower

Thursdays 22nd October – 26th November 2026

11am – 1pm

€65 per person for the 6 week course

We are delighted to introduce our first ‘Foundations in Stone Cutting’ course to St Canice’s Cathedral and Round Tower, with local stonecutter, artist and facilitator; Marin Matthews.

This 6 week course will introduce participants to the principles in stone cutting. Each beginner will start with a locally sourced piece of flagstone and gradually develop it into an individual hand-carved work.

This course is for beginnings with no past experience in stone cutting or carving and will combine practical instruction with observation, contemplation and storytelling.

The programme will establish a genuine foundation in stone cutting while encouraging participants to consider the relationship between material, creative work, meaning and self.
