This year, St Canice’s Cathedral is proud to present The Gift directly to visitors, transforming one of Ireland’s most historic and inspiring sacred spaces into a breathtaking celebration of Christmas through light, colour, sound, and storytelling.
Created by internationally renowned artistic collective Luxmuralis, The Gift is an immersive exploration of what it means to give and receive during the Christmas season. Visitors are invited on a magical journey through the Cathedral, where enchanting winter scenes, sparkling snowflakes, festive celebrations, glowing Christmas trees, and moments of seasonal wonder capture the excitement and joy of Christmas.
As the experience unfolds, audiences encounter imagery inspired by the Christmas story — from stars and angels to travellers bearing gifts — offering moments of reflection on the deeper meaning and traditions of the season. Throughout the Cathedral, vibrant Christmas flowers and festive colours illuminate the historic architecture in spectacular displays of light, creating an atmosphere of warmth, celebration, and shared joy.
Following the success of last year’s experience, The Gift invites families, friends, visitors, and communities from Kilkenny and beyond to step inside the Cathedral and experience Christmas in a truly unforgettable way.
