Top 5 Things to Do at St Canice’s Cathedral This August

Discover the heart of Kilkenny this month with a visit to St Canice’s Cathedral, one of Ireland’s finest ecclesiastical treasures. Whether you’re a history buff, looking for something to do with the kids, an architecture lover, or simply in search of a peaceful retreat, here are the top five must‑do experiences:
-
Climb the Historic Round Tower
Standing alongside the cathedral, the 10th‑century Round Tower is one of only two in Ireland open to visitors. Ascend its narrow, winding stone staircase and you’ll be rewarded with breathtaking panoramic views over Kilkenny city, the River Nore, and the lush August countryside. Pro tip: bring your camera.
-
