The Kilkenny Choir Sings Fauré’s Requiem

The Kilkenny Choir Sings Fauré’s Requiem
The Kilkenny Choir under the baton of director Patrick Rafter, will present the wonderful Requiem by Gabriel Fauré in St Canice’s Cathedral on Saturday 02nd May 2026 at 19.00 hrs.
This wonderful highly acclaimed work was written in 1887 and performed in Paris for the first time that same year. In 1889 Gabriel Fauré expanded this first version to include two extra movements. The Kilkenny Choir will perform the second version accompanied by a professional orchestra, organist and soloists.
Accompanying the ninety-five-person choral choir are the excellent well-known soloists, Sean Boylan, Baritone, and Rachel Croash, Soprano. Simon Harden will play the majestic nationally renowned 1853 Cathedral Bevington Organ. The wide range of orchestral instruments add the perfect blend of harmony, colour and balance complementing this organ of 47 registers and over 3000 pipes.
In addition to the Requiem, The Choir will perform Cantique de Jean Racine, Op.11 by Gabriel Fauré and Panis Angelicus for choirs by César Franck. It promises to be a wonderful night for choral music lovers, in the superb setting of St Canice’s Cathedral. Don’t miss it!
