From Parchment to Replica: The Making of the Red Book of Ossory

Dr. Susan Hood, Dr. John Gillis, and Timothy O’Neill will join us at St. Canice’s Cathedral, for an illuminating panel discussion on the Red Book of Ossory and the making of the facsimile. With the generous support of the RCB, the making of a facsimile of four pages of the manuscript is currently underway. Hood, Gillis and O’Neill will discuss the development of this project, the authentic techniques and appropriate materials used, along with the precision and accuracy needed to carry out a project of this scale.
Bios:
Dr Susan Hood is Church of Ireland Librarian & Archivist, at the RCB Library, Dublin
Dr John Gillis, Chief Manuscript Conservator at Trinity College Dublin
Timothy O’Neill, artist and historian – Calligraphic artist with a background in history studies and medieval manuscript tradition.
