We have different options for you to do:

Self Guided Tour, this is where you can wander at your leisure around the Cathedral with our information guide and take your time to soak in all the Histories or the Cathedral and Kilkenny

Guided Tour, let our guides take you on a journey around the Cathedral and tell you all about when the Cathedral was build and how it fits into the history of Kilkenny city and the famous people associated with the area.

These run Monday, Wednesday & Friday’s at 11am & 3pm

Cathedral History

St Canice was a great friend of St Columba (Colmcille), the Apostle of the Scots and founder of the monastery at Iona. The story is told that St Columba was once caught in a storm at sea.

The Tower

One of the only two round towers in the country that people may climb, the round tower at St Canice’s Cathedral provides a magnificent view of Kilkenny and the surrounding area on a clear day.

The Close

The Close consists of the Cathedral round tower and the various buildings in and around the close area. It is of huge significance to the site’s overall historical value, and yet is sometimes overlooked.
