20th Anniversary Organ Recital with Bálint Karosi

On Tuesday, July 21st we are celebrating 20 years since the landmark rebuilding and relocating of the Bevington Organ with a phenominal recital from Bálint Karosi at St Canices Cathedral.

Commended as “a most impressive musical interpreter” (Dr. Christoph Wolff, Boston Musical
Intelligencer), Bálint Karosi has earned a reputation for his expressive command of the organ and his
artistry as an improviser, shaped in part by his work as a composer.
He has performed at major international venues including Carnegie Hall, the Gewandhaus in Leipzig,
Victoria Hall in Geneva, the Palace of the Arts and the Liszt Academy in Budapest, the Helsinki Music
Centre, Izumi Hall in Osaka, and Minato Mirai Hall in Yokohama. As a soloist, he has appeared with the
Turku Symphony Orchestra, Spectrum Symphony, A Far Cry, and the Erdödy Chamber Orchestra, and his
festival appearances have included the Bergen and the Bodø International Organ Festivals in Norway, the
Boston Early Music Festival, the Dublin International Organ Festival, the MuSeg and Josef Enchavarría
Festivals in Spain, and the Leipzig Bachfest.

Much in demand as a teacher of historical improvisation and performance practice, Karosi has presented
masterclasses at leading institutions including the Eastman School of Music, Yale School of Music, Oberlin
Conservatory, the University of Michigan, the Hochschule für Musik in Lübeck, the Sibelius Academy in
Helsinki, the Cuneo Conservatory in Italy, and Yonsei and PUTS Universities in Seoul. He has served as a
juror for the 2022 Boston Bach International Organ Competition and the 2024 Arthur Poister Competition
in Syracuse, New York.

Karosi currently serves on the faculty of the Yale Institute of Sacred Music and as Director of Music at the
First Presbyterian Church of Philadelphia. He previously directed music at Saint Peter’s Church in
Manhattan, the First Lutheran Church in Boston, and taught at the University of Michigan. He studied at
the Liszt Academy in Budapest, the Conservatoire Supérieure in Geneva, Oberlin Conservatory, and the
Yale School of Music
